Australian trees

Australia has different kinds of landscapes. With this, there is a wide range of different kinds of trees in Australia. Two major kinds of trees are the evergreen trees and the shade trees.

Evergreen trees

Some evergreen trees can survive in places of drought like the deserts of Australia known as the outback. While some evergreen trees can be found in the forest of Australia and the country’s long coastline. There are evergreen trees with gray or blue foliage. This makes them survive under the glaring heat of the Australian sun. the mulga and the willow Acacia are examples of evergreen trees that have bluish leaves. The colors imply that the leaves are reflecting the light instead of absorbing it. This means they are protected from the heat of the sun in the desert.

Features of evergreen trees

the willow myrtle and the willow Acacia are evergreen trees with drooping branches with foliage that makes them look like willow trees. There are other evergreen trees that produce unusual flowers, like the mulga and its spiky yellow flowers. There are evergreen trees that also features fragrant leaves like the Eucalyptus and the willow myrtle. These Eucalyptus have a close bond with animals like koalas. Koalas eat the leaves of the Eucalyptus and sleep on its shade. There are also other creatures that sleeps in the holes of the Eucalyptus trees. This only shows that wildlife is also present in these trees.

Shade trees

Shade trees are very important in the hot temperature of Australia. This can shade houses making the residents save the cost of energy. Shade trees can also give you a better landscape.

The Australian Red Cedar

The Australian Red Cedar is a shade tree that is considered extinct in its native habitat. The wood of this tree is very aromatic and attractive, which is why it is widely used for the furniture and ornamental business. The tree grows up to 130 feet. And it has a canopy of leaves that can spread widely. It has a cream-colored blossom that makes it more attractive. This tree loses its leaves during the drought and quickly grows back during spring. When the leaves are starting to grow they will have a pinkish foliage. The tree must be planted under the heat of the sun, on a well-draining soil because its roots cant tolerate wetness very much.

The Spotted Gum

This shade tree is an indigenous tree that can grow up to 147 feet in height. This tree can also create a canopy quickly. It has a smooth gray bark which has yellowish-green areas during the summer, making it look spotted. When the winter arrives it will produce white flowers that honey-eating birds love. It has a glossy green foliage with the shape of a lance. It can survive drought which means it can live in the outback. It has a strong wood that is used for the timber business. During the early years of this tree, it is very sensitive to frost. But when it becomes older, it can already withstand mild frost.
